Disney Cruise
About the Disney Cruise Line
The Disney Cruise Line is a cruise line company owned by Walt Disney Company, specifically the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts division. The headquarters are located in Celebration, Florida which is just near the Walt Disney World Resort. The cruise line started back in 1995 and the first ship called Disney Magic was constructed and entered service 1998. The following year, the Disney Wonder was built and is currently the two operational ships as of September 2010.
About the Fleet
Although the gross tonnage and number of staterooms are similar, both ships have different interior layouts. However, the themes remain the same as each ship has its own special areas for children, teenagers, and grownups. Both ships are ported at Port Canaveral in Florida and can reach various popular destinations including The Bahamas, Caribbean, and many other places around the world. The activities involved in the ship depend on the destination and package.
Disney has some ambitious plans along the pipeline including the construction of another ship called the Disney Dream. This ship will be two decks taller than the older active ships and will have a total of 1,250 staterooms which is 350 more than the Disney Wonder and Disney Magic. The Disney Dream is scheduled to have its first sail on January 26, 2011. The Disney Wonder will also be relocated to the Port of Los Angeles. The Disney Fantasy which is another ship that is identical to the Disney Dream in size will enter service in 2012.
Travel and Reservation Tips
The Disney Cruise Line website is the one place to go in quickly planning a Disney-powered trip. The homepage provides all the data you need to supply so you can filter the list until you see some packages where you can choose the best one for your budget. Before planning, explore the website to see how the Disney Cruise Line differs than other cruise lines and how the Disney magic is applied through the entire trip. This is a good time to get the kids involved too so they know what is in store for them.
It is also important to get involved with other sites and blogs that keep an eye out for the Disney Cruise Line's activities. Through these sites, you may find some special deals and packages that could net you savings if the timing is right. You may also find some people talking about their experiences with one of the ships. If you really like to travel just to hop onboard one of the ships and do not mind your destination, you can also consider applying for Disney Cruise jobs. Whether it is on ship or off ship, there are plenty of choices available each with their own benefits.

The Six Tasks You Should Do When Applying for a Cruise Ship Career
Doing something as simple as a bit of research before you send off your cruise ship job application, could be all it takes to get you noticed (because believe me, you are not the only person applying for a particular position!). So, what do you do to make yourself stand out from the rest of the applicants in both your resume and your interview process?
Which facts about a cruise line should you inject into your cover letter? How do you seal the deal during your interview by wowing interviewers with your knowledge?
It will help you in the hiring process to know as much as you can about the company to which you are applying, just as you would if you were applying for a land-based job. This step is often neglected by applicants, so those that do their research will have a big advantage.
Research, for cruise ship applicants, should be focused on six essential areas.
1. Cruise Ship Fleet. You should know about the ships within the cruise lines' fleet such as total number of ships and which ship is debuting.
2. Passenger Demographic. Who are the cruise line's passengers? What is the demographic of the cruise line?
3. Cruise Itineraries. Some cruise lines concentrate on world cruises while others like Disney Cruise Line stay in North America with the exception of their European itinerary on the Disney Magic.
4. Latest News. Following cruise news publications and cruising websites will keep you informed about the latest in the cruising industry.
5. Contact Name. In order to get hired, this might be one of the most valuable pieces of information. Don't assume that there is only one contact name for each cruise line. Usually there is a different point of contact within each department. If you do not send your resume to the correct person, it most likely will not be read.
6. Write a Thank You Letter Immediately. One of our members wrote on the Discussion Forum about his success story. DJigor75 shared on the Forum about his Skype interview with NCL for the position of Disc Jockey. His interview was on Thursday February 4th. He explained that he wrote a thank-you email immediately after the interview.
This is what it said,
"I would like to thank you a lot for our interview...I had a great time and I hope to be part of the NCL crew. You are a great interviewer and you made me feel very comfortable during the conversation. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon."
On February 9th, five days after the interview, DJigor received an email from NCL that said,
"I am pleased to advise you that you've been approved to be hired and deployed in the next opening, upon successful completion of the final clearance steps..."
Remember, it really is the little things that will give one applicant a distinct advantage over another applicant when it comes to applying for a cruise job, even if they have the exact same skills and experience.
